The attorney general of New York, Eric Schneiderman, has been accused of sexually assaulting and abusing four women. Which was shocking to his followers and supporters because he is know for promoting and advocating for women’s issues. Also, he is an antagonist of Donald Trump’s policies. Soon after being accused of physical violence, Mr. Schneiderman resigned.

Mr. Schneiderman was currently running for re-election. Although these allegations are not related or corresponded with his work, “they will effectively prevent me from leading the office’s work at this critical time,” commented Schneiderman.

Two women had stepped up to The New Yorker on the record and stated that he had hit them several times during the course of their relationship and never with their consent. Although no police report had been filed, both women sought medical attention and confided in others.

The third women confided into the other two women about her time with Mr. Schneiderman. This woman was too frightened to come forward and speak out. The fourth lady said that Mr. Schneiderman had slapped her when she rejected him. The fourth women took images of her injuries and showed them to the reporter.

The allegations from these four women forced Mr. Schneiderman to be put under investigation; meanwhile, forcing him to resign as New York attorney general.

Two women, Michelle Manning Barish and Tanya Selvaratnam, decided to come forward publicly. Michelle Manning Barish began dating him from the middle of 2013 to the end of 2014. On Twitter, after the story was published, Manning Barish said, “After the most difficult month of my life-I spoke up. For my daughter and for all women. I could not remain silent and encourage other women to be brave for me. I could not.” Selvaratnam dated him from the summer of 2016 until the fall of 2017. Selvaratnam was born in Sri Lanka and she stated that “Schneiderman started calling her his “brown slave” and made her say that she was “his property.”

Mr. Schneiderman’s ex-wife of 35 years, Jennifer Cunningham, states “I’ve known Eric for nearly 35 years as a husband, father and friend. These allegations are completely inconsistent with the man I know, who has always been someone of the highest character, outstanding values and a loving father. I find it impossible to believe these allegations are true.” His ex-wife believes that these accusations are false and continue to stand by his side.

Mr. Schneiderman is activley involved in the #MeToo movement and has launched civil rights probe in New York City. He has also been an shield for immigrants in New York against the White House orders on immigration. “On Twitter, Donald Trump Jr. offered pointed commentary. He showcased one of Schneiderman’s tweets from last year saying that he would remind President Trump that no one was above the law, with Trump Jr. adding, “You were saying???”
Schneiderman has been accused of several accounts of violence and sexual assault. He has resigned and will be closing business Tuesday.
