The eternal dispute between dog and cat lovers will probably never end. It has been an endless argument since the start of time. Sure, they’re both adorable. Yes, they’re both cuddly. But which one makes the best pet?The answer is clear and that is dogs are better than cats.

More than half of American families have one or the other, but dogs win when it comes to popularity. Dog-freaks outnumber cat fans by almost two-to-one. All this devotion to dogs may have something to do with dogs’ big brain power. The average dog can learn 165 words; that’s equivalent to the vocabulary of a 2-year-old child. Dog lovers say this makes dogs especially aware of what’s going on in the human world. Cats vocabularies can’t compete—cats can learn about 35 words.

Another reason to love dogs? They work hard. Dogs have helped people herd cows and sheep for ages, but now they do more than ever. They guide the blind, hunt criminals, detect termites and gas leaks, and can even smell cancer in medical patients. Cats are good hunters, but they are way less energetic. In fact, the average house cat spends 80 percent of the day lounging and sleeping.

Not only this but dogs are always known as a man’s best friend, they will always respond when you call their name (unlike cats, who just ignore you) and greet you at the door after a long day of work.

A scientific study conducted back in 2009 shows that dogs make better pets than cats.

“Pet dogs can act as catalysts for human social interactions, and it has been suggested this may enhance feelings of well-being,” according to one study, which found that strolling around with a dog led to more interactions, especially with strangers, than when walking solo.

Dogs need walks, which also encourages the owner to walk. Walking is a great form of exercise and it is a perfect way to get fit. A 5-year-study of nearly 2,000 people in Perth, Australia, noted that “dog walking has the potential to increase physical activity in a large proportion of the community.”

No matter how busy you are, your dog would not let you skip the morning walking sessions. Studies suggest that people with dogs are more likely to keep up with their morning routines when compare to those who do not own dogs. Playing with dogs has been proved to relieve stress among all age groups. Therefore proving dogs are 10 times better than cats.
