The Greatest Showman has gotten rave reviews. People love the music, the cinematography, and of course, Hugh Jackman, but the movie overall fell short of all expectations.

The introduction to the movie was paired perfectly with the opening number, but after that everything seemed to be discombobulated.

The overall plot of the movie did not exist. There were a multitude of little storylines that were underdeveloped and never come together at the end. They attempted to add depth to the movie by adding racial issues, the “freaks v. normal,” and a complicated love story; however, none of those themes were even remotely developed and were rushed. There were almost too many “issues” being presented that it didn’t make sense.

The plot wasn’t the only thing underdeveloped. There was no character development at all. Part of this was because the characters never went through anything because the plot was rushed and just did not have any significance to the movie.

The coast character development would be Hugh Jackman’s character from going Rags to Riches, but even then the development was overlooked by the vagueness of that the movie is actually supposed to be about.

In addition to, the sound quality was horrific. It is uncertain if it was the theater or the sound of the movie, but the chorale parts were overpowered by the leading parts. There was no balance.

Other than that, the music was amazing and was the only positive aspect of the movie.

This movie had no depth, no plot, and no character development. Overall the movie was less than its rave reviews.
