Tomorrow, on June 9th, 2016, Cafe 407 will be holding an all-new event inspired for the promotion of body positivity: the Body Monologues.

Body Monologues have been occurring in small venues like this one all across the country, put on by people who have felt the effects of the beauty standards perpetuated by the media and their own self-loathing— speakers at these events often discuss their relationships with their bodies; how they’ve struggled with them or come to accept them, how body image fits into their busy lives, and what consequences obsession with appearances has wrought on their lives. At Cafe 407, both men and women are attending to talk about their battles with eating disorders like anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and binge eating disorder, or to share the story of their journey towards self-love.

The event as a whole seeks to unite the Liverpool community in each individual’s struggle to accept and love themselves. The plague of negative body image is not an uncommon one. No matter how big or how small, the force it exerts over our daily lives is on some level affecting, and Body Monologues seeks to inspire some company and healing amidst our suffering.

Come to Cafe 407 at 6pm tomorrow night if you’d like to take witness to this act of love and outreach— if we work together, we can bring about an end to the curse of negative body image, one person’s story at a time.

A small collection of students from both Liverpool and Baldwinsville High School will be sharing their pieces at the Monologues event. All proceeds will be donated to Ophelia’s Place: Cafe 407’s own program created for the treatment of eating disorders, disordered eating, and body dissatisfaction.
